In I Ching there are eight trigrams.
Trigrams (pa-kua) are lineal figures made of three lines, yin or yang. The yin line is discontinuous – -, the yang line is continuous __.
Trigrams are the basis of the 64 hexagrams by combining one to each other.
Each trigram has a name and a few attributes as follows:
Trigrams are not used in the divination itself, but provide the basis for speculation about the meaning of the hexagram as a whole.
